Melbourne Pool + Outdoor Design – Issue 9

SEAMLESS INTEGRATION

A swimming pool can be a stunning addition to your home, but the decisions involved in its design and construction can often be complicated. Choosing the ideal location, deciding on what features you require and coordinating the remaining spaces in your garden are all critical to the successful integration of a pool in the landscape. Enlisting the help of an experienced swimming pool designer will mean that these decisions are informed by professional advice, ensuring that your project runs smoothly and is delivered on time and on budget. With Enkipools, you can achieve exactly that. Investing in a comprehensive swimming pool and landscape design at the outset of your project will mean that your pool can be seamlessly integrated into your outdoor space, optimising the remaining areas for alfresco entertaining, low maintenance gardening or space for children to play – specifically, your garden should be designed to suit your lifestyle. The owners of the pool featured, Lyndall and Michael, engaged Enkipools for the design of their pool and surrounding landscape, and it was critical for the design to address three important elements of their lifestyle: family, entertaining and relaxation. With three early teenage children still living at home there was a need to create space for all with the opportunity for the family to spend time both together and apart. The inclusion of a swimming pool was to play a central role in the new garden design, providing the stage for contemporary design details that give the space interest with unique twists on common features. These include a timber feature wall behind the sun bathing area, a polished concrete block that runs into the swimming pool and a mosaic tiled feature wall that adds glamour and style to the garden. It was also important to coordinate the pool and landscape design with the architectural qualities of the house. The existing residence is an Edwardian style home with an extensive modern renovation that opens the rear of the house up to the garden. An existing patio extends the interior living spaces outdoors, and the swimming pool is elevated to one step below patio height to deal with the level changes that exist on the block. While countering the level issue, raising the pool also brings it into closer context with the house creating view lines across the water that can be enjoyed from the kitchen (the hub of the home) and the interior living spaces. The design integrates outdoor living with entertaining; swimming with relaxation; combining the elements together through repetition of materials, skilful planting design and careful manipulation of space. It is one thing to design a garden that looks good in a magazine spread, but another thing entirely to get that same look that functions successfully for a busy, sociable family. “Having Enkipools on board made designing and building our pool and landscape so easy” says Lyndall, “We now have a beautiful garden that looks spectacular, but it also really works for us as a family”. A swimming pool really is the ultimate water feature for your home. With a level of professionalism and service that only comes from years experience in the industry, Enkipools will ensure the design and construction of your swimming pool is a hassle free and rewarding experience.
